Harvey’s is committed to making positive contributions to the community
Agriculture is fast becoming the largest industry in the State of Michigan. In order for the industry to succeed in the future, a new generation of knowledgeable young people must be introduced to the benefits and wonders of agriculture.
4-H
Members of the Harvey’s team attend numerous county fairs throughout the state. Over the past 4 years Harvey’s has purchased 200 animals. Harvey’s recognizes the extensive efforts involved in raising an animal and we won’t let that enterprise go unrewarded. In 2011 Harvey’s purchased animals from the following county fairs: Clinton, Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, Mecosta, Midland, Missaukee, Monroe, Montcalm and Saginaw.
Gratiot Rodeo
Harvey’s is the lead sponsor for the Gratiot County Fair Rodeo
MSU Agronomy Club
Harvey’s sponsored the MSU Agronomy Club as they traveled to Purdue for their regional meetings. They toured local agribusinesses and met other agronomy students from across the country.
Weed Science team
In 2008 Harvey’s sponsored the MSU Weed Science Team as they traveled to Indianapolis to compete in several agronomy related contests. Students identified weeds, calibrated a sprayer, diagnosed a field problem, took a written test and identified unknown herbicide damage to several crops. MSU was awarded first place graduate team, second place undergraduate team and had many individual winners in specific categories.
